| | THOSE Y MCKENNAS | | Indie Acoustic Aussie Roots act Those y McKennas (TBM);mix cutting edge political commentary with a relaxed aussie wit, whilst pushing the envelope of the Folk Rock sound. Their instrumentation includes flute, slide mandolin and bouzouki, electric bass, piano accordion, acoustic guitar, drums and shared vocal responsibilities. With a short glance it might appear that they share instrumentation with a dozen other folk acts. It is however, the deft use of state-of-the-art effects, from Phill’s ly howling distorted slide wah wah mandolin to Clare’s delay fuzz wah flute on top of Dan’s octopus like performance on the drum kit that lift TBM into the upper realm of true festival acts.

Their sound adapts and swells from a full swing party band that keeps the crowd rocking for hours, to an engaging intimate sit-down acoustic show, audiences being moved, touched, and inspired regardless! From sets at Port Fairy Folk Festival, to cutting-edge inner city venues, with headline winery gigs in between, TBM can read an audience and vibe like a billboard, adapting their set to suit an incredible array of places, styles and taste, all linked with their individual McKenna sound. www.thosebloodymckennas.com
| JOSH ARNOLD
|
| A rare find….. Every now and than a song comes along that inspires, ignites and breathes life into its listener. Even more interesting is when a song deeply moves and breathes life into its composer to a point where they feel compelled to deliver its message of self belief, hope, faith and goodness to the far reaches of human kind.
"Courage" is one of those songs. Josh’s first single off “Fire in the Sun”, “Ripple on the Tide” received rave reviews. But this was merely the tip of the iceberg for this monumental Album and extraordinary artist. The material that sheds light into the real essence of “Fire in the Sun” has lay dormant until now. There are many who believe these songs and particularly this single, have within their midst a quality that will ignite worldwide interest.
But if "Courage" fails to shake up the world it will certainly, in time, send tremors through to its core. Its controlled power and smooth production insure the message is clear whilst maintaining an epic rock air to it that could be compared to the likes of U2 and COLDPLAY. This is music to remember, as is the name "Josh Arnold". www.josharnold.com.au
| TAMARA STEWART
|
| Truth is the thing, and it becomes quickly apparent when one has stumbled upon it. Humans have a radar for it, a kind of sonar ping that sounds in the subconscious to announce the proximity of something true and authentic.
Such an experience is to encounter the music of Tamara Stewart.
In an age where a distinctive voice and indeed the very notion of an authentic identity are often demolished in the hysterical rush to contrive an image and a style, Tamara Stewart is a throwback to another time when artists ventured forth with only a sound and a song that was an extension of themselves.
| GRASSROOTS STREET ORCHESTRA
|
| Grassroots Street Orchestra originally formed for a one-off gig at the last Joyfest, but the music was too much fun to stop playing. Our music is based in hip-hop, but with an all live, organic, acoustic and eclectic mix of roots, reggae, rock, folk and blues grooves to keep you dancing and the mood high. With five regular members on guitars, bass, drums/percussion, harmonicas and vocals, it might seem small for any kind of orchestra, but there's usually a guest soloist or two brought along to join in for some live jams and freestyle lyrics.
We just hope the audience have half as much fun listening as we do playing. www.grassrootsstreetorchestra.net | Marianne Mettes
|

Yul Brunner and Steve McQueen would be lost in the gun smoke of this real life magnificent six; a blaze of beautifully crafted hooks and melodies just a little too hot for a high noon showdown. But as night falls and the nymphs come out to play, all present are whisked away in a cacophony of churning guitars, high rolling drums, massaging bass, a dash of recorder to enhance the sirenous vocals and a refreshingly aggressive treatment of the triangle, that has to be seen to be believed. All in all, a musical crossroads of energy and an absolute epiphany of splendid eye torture.

| we received many emails of peoples experiences from last joyfest, heres a sample: | I can't tell you how much we enjoyed ourselves over the weekend. Without a word of exaggeration it was a life-changing event. It was all just beautiful beautiful beautiful. I was really impressed with the quality of the music too, there were so many fantastic bands. Phaedra
Just wanted to let you know that I think joyfest was the best festival I went to all year. The non Alcohol thing was great cause I found that I spent more time focused on music, and less worrying about another drink, or gettin waisted. I met so many beautiful people at the festival, and it was great to feel that everyone was equal! Rob S.
And thankyou again for Joyfest - I have undergone a most fantastical transformation, which for me is odd - as I was working! Chris G.
Just wanted to say very WELL DONE! with Joyfest - one of the better festivals I've attended in many ways. Sharon.
Joyfest was a wonderful event for me - I still feel a very good vibe inside myself from it. The energy was so clear - full of love as it always is. I really think it is courageous and SO WORTH IT, to call a and alcohol free festival. I felt a lot of benevolance from all the people and from spirit this weekend - what with no rain and the love and joy generated and shared. My heartfelt thanks. Sivani K
- WOW! Joyfest was a wonderful experience!
We started off at 2pm on Sat and enjoyed it so much we stayed till midnight ! (My husband went home and brought back sleeping bags for the young children so they could go to sleep) I came back for a couple of hours in the morning on Sun and then we came back about 3pm to see it to the end. What a fitting and inspirational conclusion with James Twyman sending our prayers and the positive energies created over the weekend out to the world!
We were blessed to be part of Joyfest and eagerly await next year's. One of the contributing factors to our attendance was the absence (or mostly) of , alcohol and smoke. We felt comfortable bringing our children (for free!) and didn't have to get them minded.
We also wanted to support an event featuring performers with messages/music that touch the soul to our area. Helen & Andrew G
- My family camped at the Joyfest on the weekend, and absolutely loved it.
I wish every weekend would be like that... So i just hope your effort paid off money wise as well, because spiritually it was heaven.... I hope many more festivals like that to come, we need them; these are the life-changing festivals and really makes you think...we invited a friend along who is here from Hungary and she was absolutely blown away...now of course it is very hard to get back into reality after such a great weekend... Marianna M.
- I am sure you have been flooded with thanks and congratulations on Joyfest.
Please add this to your list! We had a wonderful time and were really inspired by you and your team’s fantastic organisation and detail. You created a
wonderful wonderful atmosphere. Meegan M
Thankyou thankyou thankyou so much for a wonderful festival. i had the privilege of spending saturday at the joyfest with my two young children 4 and 2. we all had an absolute ball and a magical experience. We'd like to support you in getting the word out to as many people as possible about what you are doing, we totally support you 100% and think it is so great that the word is getting out there about things that we believe in. Just want to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed myself at JOYFEST. I was just wondering if you'll be selling any copies of the JOYFEST DVD?? My friend and I would love a copy each- so we can remember forever- the first JOYFEST! Anyways, thanks- and cant wait for the next Joyfest. :-) Jess
I was at Joyfest for Saturday and evening - thoroughly enjoyed it - totally appreciated the harmonious and loving environment - the smoke free, alcohol free, free space is a real treasure. I celebrate your vision and courage - it was a brave thing you did! We all kept up the vibes for fine weather in the face of dismal weather reports of cyclones and such coming onto the coast - did you know it was raining vitually all around you on Saturday? We drove out of rain into the clear skies of Joyfest. I would love to see some dot com billionaire supporting your work. I think it's great that you are a business man with long hair and a beard and wearing colourful clothes!! Thanks for all your risks - here's to a brilliant future for Joyfest. Sharman O.
Joyfest is exactly that... a total joy to attend. One would hope next year, more general public will be aware that it is on. The Vibe there is wonderful and the organisation was excellent. It was a wonderful festival, I hope you do it again next year. xxx Anji
We have just returned home from Joyfest and I would just like to say what an absolutely wonderful experience the weekend has been for Alison,Sarah and I. I really can't find the words to say how special it was. We have been attending festivals in the UK and here since 1969 and you are not just keeping the dream alive you are creating a whole new dream for our generation and the new generation and future generations. To quote Moses Ojah, God bless you.
We had a fantastic time at Joyfest. The energy there was amazing. Thank you for creating such a joyous weekend for so many of us who need to leave our worries behind and embrace our essence. It was our first time away camping with our 2 little ones and they had a ball! We will definitely be back next year. You truly are an inspiration. Gemma & Flynn W
Thank you for putting on such a wonderful festival. The power of spirit & love was all around and was so strong. And a very special thank you to the angel you found for us in the closing ceremony. She brought tears to my eyes (literally). If our world is in the hands of these indigo children, there’s hope for us yet! It’s a festival I’ll never forget….BETTER THAN WOODFORD. It makes me want to sing for peace, and sing, and sing, and sing….. I did all the way home! Thank you again John
